NERDY NewS

Huge thanks to Jill Heinerth for the nomination to the Royal Canadian Geographical Society College of Fellows. Not only did she get us into this elite group of Canada's coolest explorers, scientists and moves and shakers, but she also wrote about us in DIVER magazine, out this month. Deep blue gratitude for Jill constantly looking out for ways to promote my work and others around her. Thank you Jill for lifting all boats as your tide rises.

Most of the global population is either under the age of 12 (diving-age), can't swim, is scared of sharks, is claustrophobic, don't live near an ocean or don't have the financial means for the equipment required to go underwater. For any of these people, diving is out of the question. So how do we learn about the ocean without getting in it? On February 20, Melanie spoke at the BIL Conference (the alternative to TED - like Bill and Ted's excellent adventure). Her talk, entitled "Going down without getting wet", which was all about how to teach and learn about marine education without going underwater, got great reviews. The video will be posted soon!

Waste Free Week Challenge! While attending THNK School of Creative Leadership, Melanie tested out going entirely waste free for a week. Watch day three where she cracks under pressure.
