Ever since, she has been supporting the development of community "collect, care, release" aquariums across Canada through her company Ocean to Eye Level Consulting.

Melanie had the opportunity to share her story of ‘bringing the ocean to eye level’ on the TEDx stage in Vancouver. She has done countless speaking gigs for audiences large and small.

Melanie was recognized for her work environmental work by the Royal Canadian Geographic Society, becoming a Fellow in 2014. She received the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Award, TechGirls Portraits of Strength and the Canadian Network of Environmental Educators Award.

Melanie has consulted for the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority led-ECHO Program since 2014, managing the internationally recognized voluntary underwater noise reduction initiatives. We cut underwater sound intensity by 55% in key southern resident killer whale foraging areas!

Melanie currently works as a Senior Fisheries Management Officer for Fisheries and Oceans Canada, working to realize the Government of Canada's commitment to conserving 25 per cent of Canada's oceans by 2025, and 30 per cent by 2030.

You will often find Melanie picking up litter while running (plogging), SCUBA diving and practicing her fiddle. She lives in Vancouver with her fellow marine biologist husband.
